DVDesktop was an application that I wrote that lets you watch your digital movies in a floating transparent window or play them as desktop video wallpaper.

DVDesktop was featured on Apple's main download page which was a big deal at the time. It led to thousands of downloads.

It was prototyped and first written in RealBasic. It was later rewritten in ObjC.

It worked well with DVDs, VIDEO_TS folders, and native Mac movie files. Back then you would've downloaded the Perian QuickTime plugin in order to watch FLV, MKV, AVI and other video formats through QuickTime which DVDesktop used.

DVDesktop got a little writeup in the June 2006 issue of MacHome.
